CLOSE FOR COMFORT

Close for Comfort is about depressed surfer Jonathan, who has not surfed for almost a year because his best friend and partner in crime drowned in a surfing accident. Jonathan blames himself, and is contemplating suicide on the anniversary of his friend`s death. On the day before that date he saves someone from drowning and is invited to a party as the guest of honor by Lisa, a friend of the person he saved. He does not feel like going, but while walking outside he gets robbed, an experience that shakes him up and pulls him out of his melancholic state, making him receptive to positive emotional stimuli and making him decide to go to the party. At the party afterwards he has a good time and gets slightly romantic with the girl that invited him. But all this happiness falls apart when someone at the party recognizes him as the person who did not save Mark and abandoned him. This brings Jonathan back into the guilt and depression and he leave the party to go to the beach and commit suicide. He is stopped by Lisa, who states that his friend would hate him for killing himself if he had been alive. This changes Jonathans perspective and he decides to live on.
