Every year AFDA 3rd and 4th year students from our 4 campuses create original African film and television content which they exhibit at the annual Experimental Festival and Graduation Festival.  Following each festival AFDA students run an Online Festival. This festival runs for a month giving people who were unable to attend the festivals an opportunity to watch the productions.

You can now watch over 600 live action films, documentaries, animation films and television pilots made by our students from 2013 to 2019, as well as a selection of the Top 21 AFDA films here: https://www.afda.co.za/Student-Work.html

Each year AFDA selects the top graduation films to travel around the world on the national and international film festival circuit. Productions have been hugely successful both locally and abroad. These include the film ‘Elalini’, which won the Best Foreign Student Film Oscar in 2006, 'Kanye Kanye' which won over 20 best short film awards worldwide, and was a finalist for the Oscars and Cannes in 2012. 'Die Windpomp' and “Hollywood in my Huis” which were initially student films and later developed into feature films.

AFDA student films have also won eight SAFTA’s in the "Best Student Film" category. Last year also saw 16 graduation films selected by Showmax and AFDA stream live on Showmax.

*There are productions on our website that you unfortunately will not be able to view. The reason for this is that the films are being submitted on the international film circuit and due to terms and conditions of the various festivals cannot be viewed by the public.

If you are able to, stay home, stay safe and enjoy our student productions.
