Sibongiseni Shezi has strutted into 2019 with what can only be described as a BANG! Directly after graduating from AFDA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Live Performance Cum Laude, Sibongiseni (Hleziphi) auditioned for a lead role on the number one South African television soapie “Uzalo” (over 9 million viewers daily) and got the part.

The Simon Sabela Awards came up next.  Sibongiseni won the Best Actress in a Feature Film for her stand out performance in the AFDA Durban 2018 experimental short film Run, This was a remarkable achievement considering she was competing against seasoned actresses in professional feature film category.

AFDA Durban Head of Live Performance School, Sir Roel Twijnstra had this to say on her achievement. “Because Sibongiseni’s talent and extraordinary technique she was taken out of the student category and placed in the category - Best Actress in a Feature Film. The jury celebrated a young talented and very skilled actress who understands the industry, works very hard and is always a pleasure to work with. Most of all she comes with authentic and fresh character choices that holds an audience. We need actors like her, we need stars like her for our growing TV and film industry.”

Sibongiseni has also already started working on feature films, landing the the lead role in the South African feature film, Tokoloshe-The Calling, directed by AFDA  lecturer Richard Green and due for release in 2020.

The sky seems to have no limit for Sibongiseni!S
