AFDA Port Elizabeth Dean, Michael Ivy and his staff and students are delighted to have alumnus Amaron Borchards as the AFDA Port Elizabeth Open Day Alumni Guest Speaker on Saturday 17 August.

Born and raised in Port Elizabeth, Amaron (Ammy) is a 22 year old singer, songwriter, dancer and commercial model. At the age of 8 years old she got her first singing solo in a school choir and grew up singing solos in church. She was actively involved in drama and at the age of 12, started attending Helen O Grady's Drama School. She has a real passion for the arts and music and strives to be uniquely herself and authentic to who she is as an artist. Ammy's creative journey all started in her matric year when she was cast for the main school play in 2014, Godspell by John-Micheal Tebelak. She then went on to enrol in AFDA, Cape Town, majoring in Musical Performance. In March 2018 she had graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Live Performance.

In June 2018, Ammy auditioned in Port Elizabeth for the International Arts Talent Showcase (IATS), where she performed in front of talent scouts, Elsubie Verlinden and Elouise Janse van Rensburg. She got a callback and went through to the IATS, at the Silverstar Casino in Johannesburg. The auditions took place in front of Rhavynn Drummer (Tyler Perry Studios' Casting Director) and Kim Myers (Founder of the Aplause Rising Talent Showcase). Ammy was invited by Kim Meyers to represent South Africa at The Applause Rising Talent Showcase (ARTS) in Orlando, Florida in 2019. Whilst being there Ammy was chosen by international talent agents to be in the top 40 for singing and dancing. She ended up winning the Overall Talent Award, including a lifetime scholarship to the ARTS. The ARTS is a platform where actors, dancers, singers and models get exposure to the international entertainment industry. Artists also get the opportunity to work with international agents and some obtain international scholarships to the New York Film Academy.

On the 1st of December 2018 Ammy was invited to perform at The Sybil Live show in PE, where she opened for international legends, Judy Boucher and Sybil. Recently Ammy released two Extended Playlists titled 'Bubblegumtown' and 'New Glow' along with the music videos of the singles. New Glow was produced by the band Afrotronixx and can be streamed on Soundcloud and is available on Google Play Music, Spotify, iTunes and other platforms.
