In Music and in BusinMandla Makhubela, known as MinziSean to his followers and peers has successfully managed to build a solid reputation in the entertainment industry as a musician while studying a Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship BCom degree at AFDA. Mandla had this to say after his graduation on the 8 March.
“The BCom has helped me in my music career by giving me the ability to articulate, what I want, why I want it, who I want it from and what I am going to do with it. I am not scared to start a business or go into any venture, because I know how to follow the step by step process and I know how to start and manage an innovative start-up.”
Mandla got into the music business at the tender age of 17 years guided and mentored by Afrotainment founder, Mthokozi Khathi aka “Dj Tira and Gugu Khathi.
At the age of 18 Mandla decided to partner-up with his high school friend Vangile Mpumlwana to create a new independent record label called Vth Legacy.
In 2016 he won a music based competition called “Campus Reunion’’ which gave ‘’MinziSean” the opportunity to be go on a radio tour in Johannesburg and perform alongside Laylizzy and Shane Eagle.
MinziSean love for South African sounds and interest in African cultures, lead to his collaboration with Nigerian artist Jilex Anderson whom is co-signed by ‘’Ice-Price’’. Jilex feature on his single ‘’Ngolova’’.
In 2017 he played at one of Africa’s biggest music festivals, Fact Durban Rocks, sharing the same stage as Cassper Nyovest, Davido, Naak Musiq and Babes Wodumo.
In 2018 in his final year at AFDA MinziSean released his first music video for his single “Ngolova” and went on a nationwide tour. In the same year he also established his new record label Signals Music. He also signed his first distribution contract with Content Connect Africa.
In October 2018 MinziSean released his most successful single to date, “Somebody”, reaching No68 on the iTunes 200 Charts.
In January 2019 he launched a new tour called #WhosGotNextSchoolTour alongside Kidtank. The tour aims to give back to the community, educating learners about the ins and outs of the entertainment industry.
AFDA is the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance, and is registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997. Registration certificate no. 2001/HE07/012.
