24 January 2019, Alumni of the week

“It's officially official. FLATLAND by Jenna Bass will be the opening film of this year's Berlinale Panorama” says AFDA alumnus and producer of FLATLAND David Horler. “It is such a privilege and honour for our story to be recognised. This is for all the crew, cast, vendors and communities that fought with us, stood by us when we thought it would all fall apart; and believed in this story and the importance of it being told!!”

David is a magna-cum-laude BA graduate in film at AFDA, and an alumnus of the EAVE Producers Workshop, Italy’s Biennale College Cinema and many similar training forums; having also gained development experience through collaboration with Academy Award winning studio, Focus Features.

He has produced films such as THE FLEA (2013 Durban International Film Festival Official Selection / 2013 Cannes Court Metrage Short Film Corner) and produced and facilitated the South African leg of multi-country, audio-visual documentary experience Aeterna, for Sweden’s multiple award-winning production company Fasad.

David also recently produced Jenna Bass’ multi award winning film HIGH FANTASY which is still turning heads on the international film festival circuit. He is currently the Managing Director of Proper Film, developing a diverse slate of elevated-genre feature films from award-winning filmmakers such as Jenna Bass’s all-female western adventure FLATLAND, Emma Bestall’s magical realist LGBTIQ documentary project SHOW ME LOVE and Elan Gamaker’s sci-fi romance HEADLAND. He is also Executive Producer at Rivet Production Services, a foreign facilitation company for short-form media content
