After graduating in 2017, AFDA alumnus, editor, composer and sound designer, Alex La Cock is already turning heads in the film industry. At the Silwerskermfees 2018, held at the Camps Bay Hotel in Cape Town last week, Alex walked off with the Best Editing:Short Film award for his cutting skills on the film ‘Cowboy Dan’, directed by fellow alumni Wynand Louw. An exceptional achievement considering he was up against a host of experienced and seasoned South African editors.
Earlier in August Alex won the best editing award at the Eldorado Film Festival 2018 in South Arkanses, for the 2017 graduate film ‘O-Puncha’, directed by Adam Hansen. The film also scooped up the Best Short Film at the festival.
In only his second year at AFDA, Alex was already aiming high and making an impression on his peers, editing and composing the music on the award winning AFDA honours film ‘Alice’.
In his final year Alex composed the music, did the sound design and edited the Experimental films, ‘Runner’ and ‘Slip Away’. He finished off the year on a high doing the music, sound design and editing on the graduation films ‘Deluge’ and the multi-award winning graduation film ‘Junior’, for which he picked up the AFDA Graduation Festival Best Editing award.
Alex may work behind the scenes but is already enjoying the glare of the spotlight, after very little tome in the entertainment industry. Keep him on your radar!
