For Immediate Release

AFDA (The School for the Creative Economy), listed by ID magazine as “one of the top ten off-the grid art institutions in the world”, is proud announce its annual EXPERIMENTAL FESTIVAL at its JOHANNESBURG campus 15-17 June, CAPE TOWN campus 12-17 June, DURBAN campus 16 June and for the first year PORT ELIZABETH campus 16 June 2017.

“AFDA Port Elizabeth is thrilled to be taking part in the Experimental Festival for the very first time. It’s taken two and a half years to get to this point and our final year film students are determined to make their mark within the institution, as well as the national and international film community. We have arrived!” says Port Elizabeth Dean, Denise Roodt.

This year AFDA will exhibit 47 new experimental films, broadcast 13 new television documentaries and perform 9 new stage and musical productions on our respective campuses. Each campus will host their own productions as well as showcase selected travelling films from the other campuses.

An AFDA Johannesburg 3rd year experimental film from 2016, ‘Scene’, recently was selected to screen at the Cannes Short Corner Film Festival 2017.

“The experimental festival is a unique opportunity for third year students to discover and express their artistic intent as well as experiment with film, theatre and television craft techniques,” says Garth Holmes, co-founder and Chairman of AFDA.
