AFDA Cape Town are proud to announce the appointment of Lucia Saks as Head of Postgraduate Studies on its campus Lucia holds a Ph.D in Critical Studies from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. She has taught Film and Media Studies at a number of universities in both the USA and South Africa including the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Tsinghua University in Beijing, the University of Cape Town and the University of Kwa-Zulu, Natal where she started and directed the undergraduate Media and Communication Programme in 1996. She has published extensively on South African and African Cinema. Her book, Cinema in a Democratic South Africa: The Race for Representation used South African cinema and television as a lens through which to view cultural changes from the end of apartheid in 1994. Her current manuscript on Hollywood romantic comedy movies in the post-war period is under review by Columbia University Press. She is an Honorary Research Associate the University of Cape Town’s Archive and Public Culture Initiative.
