Chris Weare directs Sam Shepard’s “Buried Child”

July 10, 2017 12:20 pm

Veteran director and AFDA Cape Town Live Performance School lecturer Christopher Weare directs a production of Sam Shepard’s classic Pulitzer Prize winning play, Buried Child, to be staged at an exciting new AFDA Cape Town theatre venue, 228 on Lower Main. This powerful story is rich in sardonic humor, timeless in its vivid images of a dysfunctional family. The story centers on a rural family harboring a terrible secret. The Southern Illinois family confront the horror and guilt of the past. The arrival of an itinerant grandson catalyzes the rolling undercurrents and unearths the buried secret.

Weare has assembled a strong cast of “fresh talent” and urges support for these exciting talents in a similar spirit that Capetonians supported The Intimate Theatre and welcomed The Mechanicals (as fresh talent) in 2008.  Buried Child features established actors Skye Russell and Matthew Roberts and introduces AFDA alumni Liese Kuhn, Francois Immelman, Michael McKenzie, Nala Kumalo and Trent Rowe .

The production runs for a short season 12 – 15 July.
