The AFDA education board is very proud to announce the opening of its AFDA Botswana at the Oodi College of Applied Arts & Technology (OCAAT) Campus on the outskirts of Gaborone for 2015.


Together with their Botswana partners, Tsholofelo Ntshingane and Dr Mothusi Phuthego, AFDA look forward to creating a powerful network of filmmakers and actors to build the Botswana entertainment industry.

From it’s humble beginnings in 1994, AFDA has become one of the top Film, Television and Performance schools in the world today and has campuses in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth with over 200 staff and 1500 full-time students.

AFDA Botswana will initially offer its fully accredited and registered Bachelor of Arts (Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance) for first year students, as well as its one year Honours degree equivalent. In 2016 it will offer a BCom, Business Innovation and Enterprise and a Bachelor of Computer Technology to create a powerful network of graduates in business, arts and science: A triumvirate of integrated degrees designed to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Introduction about the OCAAT campus

Oodi College of Applied Arts & Technology (OCAAT) is an institution 100% owned by the Botswana government, sitting at Oodi village in Kgatleng District and is 10km away from the capital city Gaborone. It was officially opened on May 2012. It is a technical college that offers BTEP programs and is the only technical college that offers Jewellery design course in Botswana. OCAAT has offered AFDA Botswana some facilities to use.  As a result these two institutions are working together to improve the education system of Botswana nation.

Higher Certificate in Film, Television and Entertainment Production
The minimum requirement to enter the AFDA HC Course is BGCSE with 25-29 points.

Undergraduate Bachelor of Arts (BA): Four years in Motion Picture Medium or in Live Performance
The minimum requirement to enter an AFDA Bachelors degree is BGCSE, IGCSE, O Level or A level, with a minimum credits accumulation of 30 points.

OR the student may write an Entrance Exam at AFDA (View RPL Process). The AFDA Entrance Exam is a selection process approved by AFDA Senate for degree access. To give a candidate alternative access to degree, s/he can sit for the Entrance Exam and there must be record of it, the recommendation on the individual student from the registered psychometrist must be signed off by Senate or its subcommittee, as per AFDA Entrance Exam policy (in accordance with Higher Education Act (Act 101 of 1997) Amendment No 1317 in Government Gazette of 5 Dec 2008 number 31674 clause 31). Such access will apply only to AFDA’s programmes, its entrance exam is not valid to another university, and vice versa.

Postgraduate Bachelor of Arts (BA): One year (Honours) in Motion Picture Medium (Honours) in Live Performance
You need to have completed your Undergraduate degree studies at a recognised institution and have a portfolio of evidence of work to motivate your discipline choice.

Should you have a qualification and wish to enquire about ways to access AFDA please get in touch with us so that we can assist you. AFDA Botswana provides extended bridging options for RPL students who enter the programme. RPL will mostly be used on second year and on Honours level in the respective AFDA Botswana degree programmes. The AFDA Botswana fourth year programmes are two top-up Honours degrees (in Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance) which stand alone from the AFDA BA degrees, and can top up the prior learning of a diverse cohort, to meet the needs of the Botswana NHRDS and EDD. AFDA has a culture of constantly investing in the upliftment, upgrading and on-going development of our campus equipment and facilities. This is an essential part of our overall goal of creating a stimulating learning environment in which a pool of talent may be nurtured that will grow the current and future entertainment industry. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide practical but technically advanced facilities and equipment to meet the intellectual, aesthetic, craft, technical and attitudinal skill demands of the industry. They include state-of-the-art postproduction facilities for editing, animation, visual effects , and studios for sound design, recording and mixing.

Step 1: Enquire - If you would like more information about the course, contact your nearest AFDA campus to book for a Career Consultation to meet with a staff member who will advise about the course and can assist with your application process. If you do not require information, then proceed with Step 2.

Step 2: Apply - Complete the application, attach your report/academic documents and submit an online application form OR submit a manual application form by contacting the campus.

Step 3: Provisional Acceptance - AFDA Will contact you regarding acceptance into the course. If you have achieved the minimum number of points to make you eligible for a bursary from the DTEF, you will be required to apply to the DTEF for sponsorship. The DTEF will advise AFDA about your sponsorship conditions which shall cover tuition and administrative charges. For private students, bank statement or bank guarantee letter will be required.

Step 4: Register – Once the DTEF has given AFDA the guarantor letter, you need to register online. Registration fees will be billed on sponsorship. Self Sponsored/Private students must pay their Registration fee at this time. Registration payment will secure your position for enrolment.

Registration payment will be the only guarantee used to secure space for enrolment

Step 5: Enrol - Present yourself at the campus for enrolment. Bring two passport sized photographs.
