Damien Tomaselli has recently returned from San Diego Comic-Con where he participated in the Comic Arts Conference http://comicsartsconference.wp.txstate.edu/ , which aims to bring professionals and academics together with the public to discuss all aspects of the medium of sequential art. Tomaselli’s motion book Labyrinth of Lacuna was previewed exclusively at SDCC through both the Comic Arts Conference as well as being exhibited at the Madefire booth #4902. Labyrinth of Lacuna was built through the Madefire’s Motion Book Tool, web based software used to build and publish Madefire Motion Books. Labyrinth of Lacuna will be released through Madefire’s reader application available on IOS, Google Play, and Windows app stores in the near future. Madefire’s reader application was rated as the top app in ‘books’ during the week of Comic-Con.
Damien also participated in the Comic Art Working Group as part of the IAMCR conference held at the University of Leicester last week, where he presented his paper, The Medium is Missing…which critically compared the motion book version of Madefire’s flagship title Mono, to the printed comic of the same name. Subsequently Tomaselli has been invited to submit a full article on the topic to the International Journal of Comic Art, edited by John Lent.
Earlier in the year Tomaselli attended a virtual reality workshop – Lights, Camera, Interaction – organised through The Groupement Européen des Ecoles de Cinéma et de Télévision (GEECT) Conference at Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. The conference brought practitioners and academics together to collaborate in a workshop to engage with the the practice and developing theory of creating virtual reality content.
Tomaselli continues to work with both Madefire, the San Diego Comic Arts Conference and the IAMCR Comic Art Working Group in creating practical and theoretical components of development in print and digital narrative sequencing.
